James Chance - A key figure in No Wave, Chance has been playing a combination of improvisational Jazz-like music and punk in the New York music scene since the late 1970s, in such bands as James Chance and the Contortions, James White and the Blacks (as he appeared in the film Downtown 81), The Flaming Demonics, James Chance & the Sardonic Symphonics, James Chance and Terminal City, and James Chance and Les Contortions. In short this man is a legend!
Big Sexy Music – EmZ sings from her soul and wears her heart on her sleeve but always keeps it Big and Sexy with her sweet and vicious tunes! It’s a constant evolution of musical sexiness with the finest musicians New York has to offer.
Come out, warm up and be serenaded. History is in the making and it can’t happen without you!
On Saturday 19th of January I had the great honor of being invited to sing some Big Sexy Music at the New Amsterdam Music Association’s 108th Birthday Celebration dinner and dance in Harlem, New York City. The oldest African American music association in the USA, NAMA has served as a place for many musicians to gather after performances to socialize and to practice and it was not uncommon for the likes of John Coltrane or Max Roach to rehearse on the ground floor of the brownstone. In a word this place is legendary!
NAMA Set list
The 108th NAMA Birthday Dinner and Dance was held in the spacious basement of Salem Cullen Hall with over 150 members and special guests in attendance. The night was full of great music spanning the spectrum of jazz through to rock and roll and funk, including some standard favorites that got the entire room boogieing on the dance floor. Musical groups Blu Skyyzz and Shades of Blue brought the house down with original music as well as the likes of standard favorites such as the ‘Electric Slide’ which motivated even the most stationary guests to get up and turn it out. I felt very honored to be on stage at such an important event, singing not only one of my Big Sexy tunes but backup vocals for several other songs too. Fun times indeed! Check out NAMA and become a member!

Last night Big Sexy Music played down a sexy stripped down set at the premiere of “Le Carrousel” located at the 206 Lounge, Sullivan Street New York City. A chilly winters evening outside, Le Carrousel turned up the heat with an evening of original music curated by Gina Mobilio (who also did a killer musical set to an adoring crowd) and old time friend Myron (sound man, DJ and all round legend).
Musicians and audience members alike got cozy in this intimate setting taking advantage of the plush couches and good vibes. Accompanied by jazz guitarist and super cool Marvin Dolly, Big Sexy Music delivered some sweet and vicious tunes…
2013 is going to be a great year for Big Sexy Music! Last night’s big sexy rehearsal at A’s Wave on Broome Street, was so sweet, so vicious and utterly delicious. In preparation for the premiere at Le Carrousel on January Thursday 17th at 206 Sullivan Street (a new fortnightly showcase of song, sensuality, vitality and celebration) the rehearsal was a colorful journey into distant sonic landscapes. Inspired by the simplicity of a stripped down set up, the music took on a quiet sentimentality and had an ethereal quality resembling a gentle caress for the soul. Poetic in its meandering, the beauty of this sound lies in a unique fusion of sounds which has the ability to transport you into a different realm – one full of rich imagery. Perhaps it was the inspired walls of A’s Wave, an underground cultural haven for artistic mavericks such as Jean–Michel Basquiat and Sonic Youth, which offered the spirit for this creative exchange? Maybe it was the meeting of cultures; Australia meets Trinidad via London under the New York skies? Whatever it was the music is sounding Big and Sexy and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Friends, Seekers and Lovers! Your presence is cordially requested at an enchanted evening featuring the very finest local sirens and bards, deep in the heart of the West Village. Le Carrousel is a new fortnightly showcase of song, sensuality, vitality and celebration, in an intimate cocktail lounge setting. Our premiere shall feature original vocal stylings by the following beautiful creatures:

2012 was most certainly a Big Sexy year! Time escaped me at the end of last year as I prepared to visit my homeland Australia and I didn’t get to write a post on the final show we rocked in 2012. Accompanied by the funky genius of guitar wielding virtuoso Peter Rubin, Big Sexy Music took the stage at the Funkadelic Studios Ladies Night in December 2012 with a stripped down intimate set performed straight from the heart. Singing a few new tunes and some old favorites it was a beautiful evening as we shared some sweet and vicious tunes amongst a packed room of fellow musicians and an attentive crowd. The night was full of talented ladies doing their thing and it was a pleasure and an honor to be part of such a wonderful evening. Big thanks to Funkadelic Studios for having us and showcasing up and coming artists.
